What Our Clients Say About Us

Our family of 5 travelled to the South Rim and was looking for a way to do a bit of hiking and experience the Canyon more intimately than just tourist photos from the rim. Louie’s tour was a perfect fit! This was our first and only experience of the Grand Canyon on our short visit to AZ and the hike was absolutely stunning and the perfect level of difficulty to accommodate our youngest child (9yrs) and our novice hiking experience. In addition to carrying a delicious snack spread and outfitting us with gear, Louie was incredibly knowledgeable and provided great highlights along the way without overwhelming us with information. He brought positive energy and a joyful, encouraging spirit to the hike and took some gorgeous photos of our family. We were grateful for his patience and how he worked at our pace. It was overall just a wonderful experience.

Our group of six hikers had an absolute amazing trip with Louie and James. Their in-depth knowledge of the Canyon rock formations, history, wildlife and plants was outstanding. They had all the safety measures in place and guided on a very successful Rim to Rim hike. They were well prepared to address all of our minor ailments before they became real issues. The history stories were a very engaging way to learn about the original natives in the area. Desert Hiking will definitely be our first call on planning out next trip in the Grand Canyon.

A memorable adventure with Kory, who guided us down below the rim for our very first trip to the Grand Canyon. We didn’t travel all that way for the views and some selfies - I wanted to understand what I was looking at, and Kory was the perfect host. A professional geologist, he let us pepper him with questions for 4 hours about everything from the canyon’s groups, how it formed, to its different features, and even pointed out fossils poking out in the side of the trail that we would have never seen without him. I have asthma and was still adjusting to the altitude, and he was very accommodating and patient with me about climbing slowly and checking if I needed breaks with being condescending or annoyed. Well worth the money to spend with someone so knowledgeable. Thanks Kory!

I am not a hiker and heights freak me out, but our guide Alex made sure those things did not stop me from experiencing the magic of the canyon below the rim - even in the rain! Really appreciated Alex’s expertise in all things Grand Canyon - from geology to indigenous history. He is wonderfully personable and easily managed my needs for more assistance and the pace of my more adventurous friend. He had all the gear we needed plus great snacks.
Book the experience. It’ll be amazing.

Such an amazing way to truly experience the Grand Canyon. James our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the geology and history of the Canyon. He was thoughtful about the pace of the hike, tips for effectively hiking, and ensuring that our entire group hydrated well along the hike. We were outfitted with great gear and snacks for the hike and James prepared an excellent lunch to re-fuel for the hike back up the Canyon. My wife and I were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary and unfortunately our original tour company cancelled at the last minute. Louie was kind enough to accommodate us and provide an experience we won’t forget!

Chase did an absolutely amazing job of guiding us through the canyon. He was so knowledgeable on the environment and has amazing stories of the surrounding areas. He made sure that we were taken care of, bringing food and drinks. The trail was beautiful and the views were even better. If you’re in Arizona, this is a tour you have to take.

Gonzalo

Louie was an awesome host. He was prepared, organized, thoughtful and extremely mindful and accommodating of our needs, experience level and encouraging as well! He provided great conversation and insight into what we were experiencing and helped us to appreciate what we were seeing more than we might if going at it alone. He was also very mindful of our physical needs making sure we took breaks, drank enough water and ate the right snacks to assure that we were best acclimated to a challenging hike that covers elevations and a climate we are not accustomed to. We can’t recommend Louie highly enough and will reach out again should we come back to Grand Canyon for our next experience.

Gregory

We hiked out to Skeleton Point with Kory and were blown away every step. He put the entire hike in context with stories, history, and geology lessons. He also provided the snacks, gear, and pace that we as inexperienced hikers needed. I felt totally safe with him guiding us and was even more appreciative of the stunning views with what I learned. Best of all, he gave us enough pro gear that we're not even sore! Highly recommend this trip!

Allison

Our group did the sunset hike on the Kaibab trail, and the views were breathtaking! Ben was the best guide! He was very knowledgeable of the area, super personable and had a pretty cool sense of humor. He was super considerate of everyone's personal, physical limits. As our group was pretty easy going, it wasn't too hard for him to keep everyone happy lol. Once we got back up to the top of the rim, Ben set up an awesome sunset spread for us! It was such a perfect experience. I don't think there's a single thing I would have changed. Our group. The canyon. The sunset. And, of course Ben. It was the perfect way to spend a day.

I had reservations about using a guide for our hike, but thought it would be best with my 67-year-old father joining our excursion. Let me express my utmost admiration for Louie and the exceptional experience he provided us. The hike itself would have been amazing due to the location, but Louie elevated the experience due to his vast knowledge, captivating storytelling, and genuine concern for my family's well-being. He attentively catered to our needs and expertly managed our expectations throughout the hike. Under his guidance, we always felt safe and secure, allowing us to wholeheartedly immerse ourselves in the hike and thoroughly enjoy every moment. I cannot emphasize enough the extent to which I recommend Louie and his company to anyone considering a hike or adventure in the Grand Canyon. I only wish we'll have another opportunity to visit and use Louie for another adventure!

Victoria

Kory was an awesome guide and very knowledgeable on the canyon's creation, history, and its present day existence. My wife and I learned so much on the trail hike and always felt supported by Kory whether it was water, food, or help hiking the trail we received it. I would def. recommend this experience and any other experience hosted by Kory or Louie, thank you!

Tanios

Louie was the absolute best guide for us. His hiking tour exceeded our expectations tenfold. He thought of everything we would need including providing micro spikes (which he carried for all of us!) and we felt very safe and comfortable. His intimate knowledge of the trail and trail etiquette was excellent and he taught us a lot. Louie was also a fountain of interesting information. He could answer any question including questions about the formation and history of the canyon, the history of the indigenous people of the area, folklore and legends. His geology knowledge was spot on and made every turn of the trail fascinating. He was also very attuned and attentive to our needs so he knew when to suggest we turn around to hike back up to the rim. Our eldest member is 75 and Louie figured out a pace that was good for everyone. Louie loves the land and clearly loves his job of sharing its secrets. 10/10 would recommend and will call on Louie for our next adventure.

Jessica

I booked the Desert Hiking Company to take my sister, best friend, and I into the Grand Canyon. From the moment we arrived, I knew we were in terrific hands. Louie and Kyla made sure we had quality gear, snacks, lunch, water, and other beverages. Louie knows the Canyon like the back of his hand. I felt like I was hiking in their backyard. A terrific hike with safe, knowledgeable guides on a snowy day in the Canyon. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Bree Saxe

Highly recommend booking a hike with Louie. My partner and I booked the South Kaibab trail to be guided on the hike by Louie. He shared information about the local indigenous tribes, astronomy, geographic, and tons more. We will be booking another hike for next year and we can't wait. We are moderately active and this trail was perfect with the assistance from the hiking poles Louie provided. Our diet is vegan and gluten free, and Louie found some really good options for us to eat for dinner. The sunset hike was overall breathtaking. Highly recommend!
