The Bright Angel Loop follows some of the most accessible and scenic trails in the park, offering an unforgettable adventure filled with stunning vistas and rich natural and cultural history.
Itinerary
- Day 1: You’ll embark on your journey down the renowned South Kaibab Trail. This 7.5-mile descent takes you through breathtaking landscapes, with expansive views both up and down the canyon. As you make your way to Bright Angel Campground, situated at the base of the canyon near the Colorado River, you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of the Grand Canyon. The campground, shaded by towering cottonwood trees, offers piped drinking water and access to Phantom Ranch, where you can enjoy a snack bar and ranger-led evening programs. This charming spot will be your home for the first night.
- Day 2: After a hearty breakfast, you’ll pack up and set out early to take advantage of the cooler morning hours. Today’s hike covers 4.5 miles and takes you along the Bright Angel Trail as it follows the Colorado River before ascending 1,000 feet to reach Garden Creek. From there, you’ll continue upstream past the junction with Pipe Creek until you arrive at Havasupai Garden, a spring that has nourished seasonal Havasupai garden plots for centuries. A short distance from the spring, you’ll reach Havasupai Garden Campground, where you’ll set up camp for the night. This peaceful site offers shade, water, and a serene setting to relax and reflect on your journey.
- Day 3: On the final day of your adventure, you’ll enjoy a leisurely morning and a delicious breakfast before setting out on the 4.8-mile hike back to the South Rim via the Bright Angel Trail. As you ascend 3,000 feet, you’ll have ample opportunity to take in the awe-inspiring views and appreciate the incredible landscape that surrounds you. Upon reaching the rim, you’ll look back over the route you’ve traveled, savoring the memories of your journey through one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders.
