Itinerary

Start: Begin your adventure at the Hermit Trailhead, located at the western end of Hermit Road. This less-traveled trail offers a more rugged and remote experience compared to other South Rim hikes. The trailhead is accessible by shuttle bus (seasonally) or private vehicle during the off-season.

Santa Maria Spring (Optional): Descend approximately 2.5 miles along the historic Hermit Trail to Santa Maria Spring, a picturesque rest spot featuring a small stone shelter and a reliable spring. This is a great place to rest, rehydrate, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the canyon.

Dripping Springs (Optional) : Continue another 2.5 miles on a side trail to reach Dripping Springs, a hidden gem nestled beneath towering canyon walls. The spring provides a year-round water source, and the cool, shaded area makes for an ideal lunch break while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Return: After soaking in the tranquility of Dripping Springs, retrace your steps back to the Hermit Trailhead. The climb is steep and rugged, so take your time and enjoy the sweeping views of Hermit Canyon and the Colorado Plateau on your ascent.
