There are moments in running a small business that remind you why all of the early mornings, long days, and countless miles on the trail are worth it.
A few years ago, we were honored to be featured in an article by Magnificent World titled “Hiking in the Grand Canyon – 20 Tips for Your Next Adventure.” The article highlighted our guiding philosophy, featured several of our photographs from inside Grand Canyon National Park, and introduced readers from around the world to what makes hiking here so special.
A Reflection on the Early Days
Reading that article today brings back a lot of memories.
At the time, Desert Hiking Company was still finding its footing. We were a young guiding company fueled almost entirely by passion—a deep love for the Grand Canyon and a desire to share it responsibly with others.
Back then, the article introduced our founders, Louie and Kyla, as guides who had spent years exploring the canyon and helping visitors experience it safely.
While some things have changed since then, our mission hasn’t.
Every trip is still built around small groups, genuine connection, education, and respect for this extraordinary landscape.
What Has Changed Since Then?
Since that article was published, we’ve continued to grow.
Today we offer:
- Private Grand Canyon day hikes
- Multi-day backpacking adventures
- Sunrise and sunset hikes
- Custom itineraries
- Educational experiences focused on geology, ecology, history, and Leave No Trace ethics
We’ve guided hundreds of guests through one of the most incredible landscapes on Earth, and every season continues to teach us something new.
Why This Feature Still Means So Much
For a small, locally owned business, being recognized by an international travel publication was a meaningful milestone.
It wasn’t just publicity.
It was confirmation that the way we guide—prioritizing safety, education, and authentic experiences—resonates with people.
We’re grateful that Magnificent World chose to include us among their recommendations for visitors planning a Grand Canyon adventure.
