Itinerary

  • Day 1: Your adventure begins with a descent along the exhilarating Grandview Trail, taking you down to the historic Horseshoe Mesa. Here, you’ll explore the Cave of the Domes, the only cave in the Grand Canyon open to visitors, and discover the remnants of century-old mining operations. As the day progresses, you’ll descend further into the canyon, setting up camp on the Tonto Plateau, perched above the Inner Gorge. From this vantage point, you’ll gaze up at the imposing towers and ridges of the North Rim, a sight few ever experience.
  • Day 2: On the second day, the journey continues eastward along the Tonto Trail. This path leads us closer to the mighty Colorado River, marking the eastern start of the awe-inspiring Granite Gorge. Depending on the progress of the day’s hike, you’ll set up camp either in the vivid Red Canyon or along the river’s edge. The lower sections of Red Canyon are dominated by the striking Hakatai Shale, which boasts the most vibrant crimson hues found anywhere in the canyon.
  • Day 3: Your third day offers a full exploration of the area around Red Canyon and the Colorado River. You’ll have time to enjoy the impressive rapids, relax by the river, and take in the stunning natural beauty that surrounds you. This day provides a more leisurely pace, allowing you to soak in the solitude and remoteness of this wild section of the Grand Canyon.
  • Day 4: The final leg of your journey takes you on an ascent back to the South Rim via the New Hance Trail, renowned for its rugged beauty and challenging terrain. As you make your way up, you’ll reflect on the diverse landscapes you’ve traversed, from the vibrant depths of Red Canyon to the sweeping vistas of the Inner Gorge, completing a trek that few have the privilege to undertake.
