Hike Overview
The South Kaibab Trail Day Hike offers unmatched panoramic views from start to finish, leading you along a dramatic ridgeline that reveals the vastness and beauty of the canyon like no other route.
From the moment we descend below the rim, you’ll be surrounded by towering cliffs, layered rock formations, and expansive vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see. Known for its “big views for minimal miles,” the South Kaibab Trail is a photographer’s dream, with every twist and turn revealing new angles of this natural wonder.
Our expert guides will share fascinating insights into the canyon’s geology, human history, and unique ecosystem, turning the landscape into a living storybook. We’ll make our way to a stunning viewpoint—like Ooh Aah Point or Cedar Ridge—where we’ll pause to take in the incredible scenery and enjoy a healthy meal before heading back up to the rim.
Challenge yourself. Be inspired. And walk away with memories that will last a lifetime.
Itinerary
Ooh Aah Point: After just under a mile of hiking, reach Ooh Aah Point, the first major viewpoint. This spot offers jaw-dropping views of the canyon and is a great place for a quick photo stop.
Cedar Ridge: Continue your descent to Cedar Ridge, 1.5 miles from the trailhead. This expansive plateau offers more incredible views and a great place to take a break. Here, you’ll find restrooms and a large, flat area perfect for soaking in the canyon’s beauty.
Skeleton Point (Optional): For those seeking a bit more of a challenge, continue to Skeleton Point, 3 miles from the trailhead. This point offers the first views of the Colorado River and provides a sense of the canyon’s depth.
Return: After enjoying your time at either Cedar Ridge or Skeleton Point, begin the ascent back to the South Rim. The return hike is steep and challenging, but the breathtaking scenery makes it worth every step.
